Sue Johnston, Artemis Group Limited
You may not have heard of Sue Johnston, but you may know her by her family name, Sue Scobie. She’s worked in and around the health sector for nearly 30 years, originally as a registered nurse, then holding roles in the Ministry of Health as a Nurse Advisor, Senior Analyst, Strategic Projects Leader and Policy Manager. She has also worked as a Senior Analyst in ACC.
For the past 11 years Sue has been an independent contractor working with central government, NGOs, DHBs and PHOs on a wide variety of projects and initiatives. Litmus has been privileged to work with Sue on a number of health related projects, including a quality review on components of the Well Child Tamariki Ora framework.
Sue is a strategist, and transformational change agent with a background in health policy and quality improvement. She works in a very inclusive way with clients and stakeholders whether for a major policy review or supporting them with their own transformational change projects.

Statistical expert: James Reilly, Statistical Insights
Litmus draws on the statistical expertise of James Reilly to peer review quantitative sampling frames, answer specific quantitative analysis queries and undertake statistical analysis such as regression analysis. An expert in statistics, James is a member of the New Zealand and American Statistical Associations and has consulted for many companies and government agencies.

Primary health care and Pacific health expert: Dr Debbie Ryan
Dr Debbie Ryan offers expert advice to Litmus on public health social research and evaluations focusing on Pacific peoples. Dr Ryan is a Principal Consultant at Pacific Perspectives, a consultancy that advises government agencies on policy and implementation in relation to Pacific populations in New Zealand and the Pacific.
Dr Ryan is a medical practitioner and has extensive experience in public policy development and implementation and service delivery within non-government organisations, primary health care and community groups.

Public health physician, epidemiologist: Dr Deborah Read
Dr Deborah Read has provided strategic advice to the Litmus team on a number of projects, including the evaluation of the implementation of the Human Papillomavirus Immunisation Programme and audience research around childhood immunisation.
Dr Read brings a wealth of public sector experience and health expertise. Her public health background is primarily in environmental health and environmental epidemiology. Dr Read has undertaken specific training in health risk assessment, risk communication, investigative skills and enforcement, emergency management, media management, cultural competence and governance.

Māori research and evaluation: Kaipuke Consultants Ltd
Litmus has a collaborative working relationship with Lisa Davies and John Whaanga, co-directors of Kaipuke Consultants Ltd. Established in 1998, Kaipuke is a management consultancy that specialises in the provision of advice on how public and private sector agencies can maximise opportunities to work effectively with Māori.
Lisa is a demographer who has extensive experience in qualitative and quantitative research, statistical analysis, indicator development, and programme and organisational evaluation. Lisa has been involved with research into parent and caregiver views on tobacco use among children for the Health Sponsorship Council and the evaluation of the implementation of the Human Papillomavirus Immunisation Programme for the Ministry of Health.
John has a wealth of experience within the health sector and extensive networks amongst Māori health professionals. He is well versed in the strategy, policy and operational issues that impact on Māori health and well-being and has a proven track record in facilitating stakeholder engagement in the health sector between Māori and the Crown.
Lisa and John have both held senior management roles within the public sector.

Applied epidemiologist and health surveillance expert: Associate Professor Barry Borman
Associate Professor Barry Borman is based at the Centre for Public Health Research, Massey University. Litmus draws on Associate Professor Borman’s extensive experience in applied epidemiology, the establishment and operation of health surveillance systems and the use of national health data sets. Associate Professor Borman teaches Master’s level courses in epidemiology and environmental epidemiology and supervises a number of MPH and PhD students.
Associate Professor Borman is also an Adjunct Associate Professor, Health Sciences Centre, University of Canterbury, an Honorary Research Fellow, Department of Public Health, University of Otago/Wellington and was previously the Manager of Public Health Intelligence, the epidemiology and surveillance group of the Ministry of Health.

Cancer epidemiologist: Professor Neil Pearce
Professor Pearce is the former Director of the Centre for Public Health Research at Massey University, New Zealand and is currently Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He has an international reputation as a leading epidemiologist in cancer epidemiology and as such, provides expert strategic epidemiological advice to the Litmus team.
Professor Pearce has more than twenty years of experience in cancer research, and epidemiology more generally, and has authored or co-authored more than 300 papers in scientific journals, as well as a number of book chapters.
